The four shortlisted designs for the Aphra Behn statue have been revealed. The shortlisted artists (l-r in image above), Christine Charlesworth, Meredith Bergmann, Maurice Blik and Victoria Atkinson have each produced a scale statue of 50cm high in bronze. The statues will be on tour across the UK at the following locations this summer.
There is also a fundraising auction this July raising key funds for the final Aphra Behn statue. Some amazing lots are available including Wimbledon tickets for 2023, a week in a Greek villa, a week in Whitstable, a hog roast for 100+ people, a weekend in a beach hut with oysters etc. The auction is also a chance for people to own a one-off Aphra Behn desk-sized sculpture by a world-leading artist; that's right, the final four maquttes in bronze are all being sold off. Click here to see all the auction lots and place a bid online.
The public can vote online for their favourite design. To read more about each design and to vote for your favourite, please visit the Canterbury Commemoration Society's website here.
Of course, all regular donations to the statue campaign are very welcome. Every contribution helps. Thank you so much.
