On this day 332 years ago, Aphra Behn died. She was 48. Her health had been failing for a few years and a botched operation hastened an early death. She is buried in Westminster Abbey, not in Poet's Corner, but outside...on the way to the exit.
We will soon be launching a public campaign to raise a statue to celebrate the amazing life (and works) of Aphra Behn: the first professional female writer in English. Please follow and share our Facebook page and Twitter posts, so we can honour this incredible woman in her hometown of Canterbury.
