We've added another fantastic supporter to our campaign: Professor Elaine Hobby. Elaine is a leading academic in the field of 17th Century Studies and is currently leading on an international project that is creating The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Aphra Behn. She herself is editing Behn’s The Rover, The Amorous Prince, and some other plays. Since her appointment as Lecturer in Women’s Studies in 1988 at Loughborough University the investigation of forgotten female authors has been her central interest.
Charlotte Cornell who is chair of the A is for Aphra campaign and Elaine spent a wonderful day together in the Canterbury sunshine last week. They roamed the streets, investigated a hidden cellar on one of Canterbury's oldest streets, explored some books tucked in the attic of the most wonderful bookshop (Chaucer Books) and had tea at Tiny Tim's Tea Room - all the while discussing Aphra, her life and how the team can get this statue done!
